Vidya Prabodhini College Inaugurates Communication Club

“An idea can be expressed in several ways – dance, music, drama, the written word. Effective communication is an important skill that enables us to understand and connect better with the society we live in. Communication skills are not just for inter-personal relationships but also for sharing of ideas and expressing our needs and concerns”, said Dr. Edward de Lima as the Chief Guest at the inauguration of Vidya Prabodhini College Communication Club, on 29th September, 2016. Dr. Edward de Lima, in his address to the students, also highlighted the necessity of communication especially in today’s world.

He said that language is a mode of communication to facilitate and enhance universal brotherhood. He decried its usage in the contemporary world politics, adding that language has become one of the reasons for conflicts. He appreciated the college for creating opportunities for students to express and communicate their thoughts and ideas. Appreciating the students and the Club Convenor, Ms. P. Jyoti Kiran, he lauded the objectives of the Communication Club to organize activities using the resources of all the four Language departments- English, Hindi, Konkani and Marathi.

Dr. Edward de Lima also gave away certificates to students, who won prizes for two intra-collegiate competitions – ‘Caption It’ and Elocution, organized by the college. The first prize in ‘Caption It’ was secured by Maheshwar Gadekar (F.Y.B.Com.), while the second and the third prizes were secured by Ms. Sadaf Farooqui (S.Y.B.A.B.Ed.) and Shivani Gaonkar (F.Y.B.Com.) respectively. In the Elocution competition, the first prize was won by Ms. Aishwarya Nair (F.Y.B.A.B.Ed.), while the second and the third prizes were bagged by Yugandhara Thakur (F.Y.B.A.B.Ed.) and Shivaji Ozarekar (S.Y.B.A.B.Ed.) respectively.

As part of the inauguration programme, the students of Vidyaprabodhini also presented a play on the theme, ‘Woman Empowerment’. The play depicted characters from around us and sends across the message ‘we empower woman, we empower the society’. Earlier, the programme started with a prayer song and traditional lighting of the lamp. Principal, Dr. M. R. Patil, welcomed the audience and introduced the chief guest to the gathering. Dr.Sukhaji G.Naik Vice-Principal along with Faculty members were present on the occasion. The program was compered by Ms. Ratisha Sapre, a student of S.Y.B.A.B.Ed.
