Workshop on Soft Skills

The Education Department of Vidya Prabodhini College, Parvati Goa organised a one day workshop on 'Life skills' in collaboration with 'District Mental Health Programme' of North District Hospital Mapusa Goa. The workshop was conducted for the students of Final Year BABED programme.

The inaugural function began with an address to the gathering by the Principal of the college Dr. M. R. Patil, who briefed the students about the importance of acquiring life skills through experience. He urged students upon the fact that they should learn to develop the skill of anger management and to handle their weaknesses. This was followed by lighting of the traditional lamp by the dignitaries. Invited guests were presented with flower saplings as a token of love and gratitude. The chief guest for the workshop, Dr. Shaheen Sayyad, spoke about the recent works of DMHP cell in North Goa district. She compared life skills as being the capacity to nurture one's future. By addressing the psychologists and counselors as mind specialists or mind doctors, she tried to build a rapport with the listeners. The one-day workshop followed a five module programme. Chief resource person Dr. Rupesh Patkar, volunteers Melisha Dias, Ashwini Naik, Dr. Durga Chari, conducted various activities with the students. These activities highlighted the importance of developing the right abilities in adolescents.

The different life skills dealt with in this workshop included Decision Making, Stress Management, Problem Solving, Suicide Prevention and Anger Management. Active participation of the students was encouraged by the volunteers through group discussions, questionnaires, games and role play. At the valedictory function of the programme, Assistant professor Kuldeep Kamat praised the resource person Dr. Rupesh Patkars commitment for social service and also thanked him for conducting the workshop. Compering of the programme was done by Miss Sakshi Pandit and Miss Pooja Gawas. Miss Aditi Bhat proposed the vote is thanks. Feedback of the workshop was shared by Mansi Dhauskar, Alisha Gadekar and Shridhar Raut.

State Level Workshop on “Academic Writing Support Services and Web 2.0

Prabodhan Education Society’s Vidya Prabodhini College of Commerce, Education, Computer and Management, Parvari organized a State Level Workshop on “Academic Writing Support Services and web 2.0”. A total of 54 Librarians and the students of Library science from different colleges, Higher Secondary Schools, High Schools and from other Institutions across Goa participated and availed benefits of this workshop. Dr. M.R.Patil, Principal of the college welcomed the chief Guest, Shri Dilip Betkekar, National Vice-President, Vidya Bharti, Chairman, Prabodhan Education Society, Shri Prabhakar Bhate, Resource Person, Shri Munesh Kumar, Librarian, National Institute of Technology(NIT), Farmagurdi, Goa, Dr. Sukhaji G. Naik, Vice Principal of the college, Shri Nitesh Naik, Librarian and Convener of the workshop and Shri Sunny Pandhre, Secretary of the workshop.

Mr. Nitesh Naik, Convener of the workshop explained the broader objective of the workshop and highlighted upon how this one-day workshop is beneficial to the Librarians. Shri. Dilip Betkekar during his inaugural address recognized the important role of Librarians in meeting teaching and learning needs of teachers and students. He explained how Librarians are the leaders of education and they have to continuously upgrade and update themselves to meet the present day requirements. He further informed that when we learn, we do not earn and when we earn we do not learn. People should have an urge to learn something new. We spend substantial amount of our income on entertainment and other things but, spend very negligible amount on education. Librarians have to reach to the unreached people. Librarians should visit places like INFLIBNET Centre as a tourist instead of visiting other entertainment places.

The Resource person Shri. Munesh Kumar during his first technical session shared useful knowledge about important components like Plagiarism control and citation, Publication of e-books, internet-based learning applications and writing and collaboration tools. During his second technical session, Mr. Munesh Kumar discussed various internet-based learning applications, he also emphasized on creating websites using GoDaddy, WordPress etc. Several doubts and queries of the participants were addressed. An in-depth knowledge of resource person in the area of different internet based learning applications really benefitted the participants. Mr. Sunny Pandhre, Assistant Professor in Commerce and the Secretary of the workshop extended thanks to the dignitaries and participants of the workshop. Mrs. Santoshi Narvekar, Assistant Professor in Environmental Studies, compered the entire programme of the workshop.
